Death and Life

This illustration is my most recent digital work, and I really enjoyed the process on this one. I had done a little doodle of this idea (seen below), maybe 2 inches wide on the last page of the sketchbook I finished earlier this month.

Tiny pencil and ink concept sketch for Death and Life

The idea behind this piece is from Proverbs 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it with eat its fruits".

Our words are SO incredibly powerful, and I wanted to portray the life (flowers and leaves) and death (exposed bone apart from the rest of the skeleton) in an illustration. I debated back and forth about whether to do this one digitally or in watercolor, but happy that I went digital.

I plan on making prints of this piece soon, possibly even stickers.

What are your thoughts on the power of words?
